Oil well services — this might be a term that you do not commonly hear. However, it has a big importance in our society. Petrol-driven vehicles will not able to run without oil.
Having said so, oil well service is the act of drilling in the Earth to acquire petroleum oil hydrocarbons. Also, natural gas is secreted as well. There are wells that produce particular energy reserves such as gas. If the well only produces gas then we can call it a gas well.
How oil wells are created?
Oil drilling is the primary way to create wells into a pending oil or gas reserve. A pump jack is used to extract the oils beneath. This is a very expensive process and the costs depend on the area where the drilling of oil will take place. Offshore oil platforms are one of the hardest places to drill and can cost a fortune to make.
It all started in the early 19th century and everything is done manually. Just recently things became more efficient in the 20th century through modern pieces of equipment.
Wells are considered as an asset most especially if the value of oil and other petroleum products goes up. This is why low production wells are being utilized as well and with the use of hydraulic fracturing, production becomes significantly higher.
But this kind of wells is now getting fewer due to climate policy. The reason for this is that wellheads are a threat to the environment. Leakage may occur that has the ability to cause air, soil, and water systems problems.
Much worse scenarios might happen if the wells are abandoned. This happens when the well is not valuable anymore thus companies leave them as is.
As a result, greenhouse emissions are expected and their effects are currently evident because there are almost 30 million abandoned wells worldwide. It is known to be one of the primary causes of climate change.
